The substance decides the first week

Withdrawal from alcohol and from benzodiazepines can be genuinely dangerous. Seizures and delirium tremens are real risks, and stopping suddenly at home is the wrong plan for either. Opioid withdrawal is rarely dangerous but is hard enough that people abandon it, which is where medication assisted treatment does its work. Stimulants like cocaine and methamphetamine have no medical detox to speak of, and the difficulty is the crash and the cravings that follow it.

That is the part of treatment that changes by substance. It is also the shortest part.

After that, the work is largely shared

From the second week onward, treatment looks much the same across substances: individual therapy, group work, family sessions where the family is willing, and a plan for what happens after discharge. What differs is emphasis rather than method.

Roughly half the people who come to us are dealing with a mental health condition alongside the substance use. Treating one and ignoring the other tends to produce a relapse rather than a recovery, which is why the assessment covers both.

Where this happens

Substance use treatment runs at our Braintree and Quincy centers. Quincy handles mental health as well, which matters when both are in play. Our Sharon center is mental health only, and we will say so rather than book somebody into the wrong building.

What we treat

Ten substances, and the treatment that goes with each.

Not sure which of these you need?

That is the most common call we take. Admissions will ask what has been happening, check your coverage, and tell you which level of care fits. No cost, no obligation.
